Let's put it this way: if I am at an occasion where others are having cigars and I'm offered one, I'll smoke it and probably enjoy it a bit. But I'm not going to look for them on my own.

Having survived two cases of pneumonia as a small child, I find I'm regrettably more sensitive to 2nd hand smoke than I perceive most people to be, so I've never tried smoking.

I considered trying a cigar when offered by a friend; but am not clear on how to do it without getting violently ill (I understand cigar smoke is not inhaled, per se).

Perhaps someone who smokes the occasional cigar when offered might be able to explain it well enough that I could pull it off in a pinch without putting myself in the hospital.

Haven't read DMC yet. Did he do it in the context of a mission? I'm inclined not to judge people too harshly on their private vices as long as they're functional. Many great films, books, songs, ideas, etc have been created under the influence of some substance or another. For example, Amy Winehouse's substance use was never an issue for me until it prevented her from working effectively (including being the alleged reason she didn't get the QoS title song).

He was out at a night club in(I think) Turkey and they had an opium den at the club. best I remember his contact in Turkey was trying to give him a fun night on the town. I can see bond doing some drugs but I do not like the idea of him doing opium as he is so concerned with being in control.

just reread this one. bought a softcover copy in Walmart for about five bucks. :)

what happens, is that Bond takes a puff off of the hookah to not offend his host, and when he believes nobody is looking, he let's the opium smoke run out of his nose, as he doesn't want to impair his abilities.

he never takes a real hit, he doesn't inhale.

EDIT: it was in Tehren, then Persia, now Iran.

David

Although I have voted "occasionally" in the above poll, it's absolutely my intention to give it completely up this year.
So, I hereby solemnly declare I won't ever smoke a cigarette or cigar again. We're only halfway 2010, so at the end of the year I guess I'll be able to call myself a non-smoker.
