I've lived in London my whole life so have my parents and their parents. If anybody does have any questions, perhaps you are planning a visit or you just have something you have always wondered about, feel free to ask.

That is very generous Mark.

Am planning on moving back to the UK in a few years so I may well have some questions then although right now nothing in particular

Welcome to the forum

No problem at all Dr. Fel

Out of curiosity where in the U.K. are you moving to?

Thankyou very much.

Mark,

I'll be in London again this July. I plan to take some photos of the city (to go with my London podcast), and I'm also planning on hitting Stoke Pogues for the Golf podcast. Any tips you want to send me are more than welcome!

Thanks!

I'll be honest, off the top of my head i'm not sure of any tips to give except one. On the South Bank opposite the House of Parliament, theres a low wall that you can stand on by the river, makes a great photo, next to a lamppost with Parliament over one shoulder and Big Ben over the other.

If you are in the West End shopping, try walking from Oxford Street, Straight down Bond Street (perhaps detouring down Saville Row) then cross Picadilly, turn left along Jermyn Street, and back up Regent Street. You will hit practically every great shop in the area.

Not sure what else you are into but on a Sunday morning the Flea Market at Spittlefields is well worth a look.

Apart from that i'm not sure of the sort of thing you are looking for. Is there something specific you would be interested in? Restaurants? Shops?

I can't think of any specific questions I might have, just that I'm always keeping my ears open for good tips. ;)

Is London really like in Lock Stock and Snatch? Is 'fuck' just about everyone's favorite word? :P

Snatch and Lock, Stock are exagerrations of the sort of characters that you really do find in and around London. The weird and the wonderful as it were. Fuck is quite possibly used more in London than anywhere else in the world, the language on some people here would make a sailor blush.

Layer Cake is a better depiction of London as a whole. The quiet ambiguity of the whole town and the idea that behind closed doors and drawn curtains there lies another world, though that could probably be said of most of the worlds major cities. Drug dealers here are not gentlemen as such but, of the few i've met, they certainly seem to be a lot calmer than, say, American drug dealers. Or the way they are depicted here.
