Post subject:  Length of podcast

Hi all,

Sandy and I have noticed that the lengths of our podcasts are flopping around all over the place, and as we're trying to serve you guys, we want to see what your preferences are for length of our shows. Given that we are trying to get them out weekly, what is the length that you'd like to see us try to keep them to?

Or, would you rather just like us to make them as long as we need to get you the info you want?

I kept the low end at 20 minutes - if we do a 10 minute or longer "meat" section, then that doesn't leave us much time to comment and let you know about Being James Bond news and such.

Please, let us know!
Jamie

I actually like short podcasts. A 15 minute podcast is fairly easy to squeeze into your schedule, either to just sit and listen to it, listen while driving somewhere or listen while doing chores around the house. When podcasts start to exceed 30 minutes then they *may* be longer than my drive or longer than my chores and thus become harder to fit in. (Amazingly most of our devices can only seem to remember where we are in the middle of listening to a single item. If I had a device that remembered where I was in each and every track then my opinion would be different.)

Having said that, I wouldn't want a topic to get short changed and rushed just to make some artificial short time frame. I listen to another podcast regularly and it is often 1 1/2 to 2 hours long (every week) and it's actually very hard for me to fit that into my schedule!

Maybe I'm just ADD {laugh}, I like to switch from activity to activity and don't really care to block out large chunks of time for any single thing.

I enjoy both long and short podcasts if they adequately cover the subject. I tend to download the longer ones to my iPod and listen to them when traveling in my car.

I think if a subject demands much more than 20 minutes to treat adequately, the podcast ought to be done in sections. It's seldom that I get much more than that much uninterrupted listening time.

I feel the optimal lentgh of a podcast should be around the time it takes you to leave home and get to work. It's usually the ideal time to listen

Definitely, but of course that varies from person to person. Some may have a five minute drive, some may have a forty five minute drive, and others may work at home or have variable drives. My advice is to lean toward shorter, that way if someone has a long drive they can still easily fit it in and listen to something else.

Who wants to be "average"? {smile}

Well George Smiley has been described as completely forgettable in appearance, which is why he makes a good spy. Bond is Bond and I wouldn't change him, but try conducting a surveillance from an Aston Martin vs a Toyota Corolla. :D

Black Honda Civic... works very nicely. {smile}

But yes, I agree, as far as a fictional spy (topic drift anyone?) I'm certainly not interested in "average" and unnoticed.
