Had an opportunity to add a few SCUBA items to my collection, which is handy since I've been considering getting back into SCUBA diving...

Unfortunately, the wetsuit, fins, and white swimming suit do not fit, and the speargun does not work, but the tanks and regulator do, and the weight belt and dive knife are usable. The mask would work, but you have to be very selective in how you fit it to your face. All of this equipment is vintage 1965 and is or is similar to that used in Thunderball by Bond and the ParaMarines, with the exception of the knife, which is the belt sheath knife used by SPECTRE. I've also acquired one of the SPECTRE dive masks, but the face seal is in rough shape, however, it may be fixable.

I'm trying to find a mannequin to use to display these items, but it has to be stable an not have supports requiring making holes in the wetsuit. More to come if and when this gets accomplished.

Cool! The complete set must have been a real challenge to track down.

Thunderball has always been my favorite. I'm hoping to dive the Vulcan remains when I am in Nassau in a few months!

I was in the Bahamas recently, but didn't have time to go diving, just a bit of snorkeling. I understand there is less and less of the Vulcan left as people take pieces as souvenirs so the sooner you go, the better.

Pictures are always appreciated... :D

Some more additions to the Thunderball SCUBA collection...

[ img ]

The top speargun is the exact same model Bond pins Vargas to the tree with... "Think he got the point". ;)

These are Pneumatic guns that must be pumped up with air before the dive. The bras tube at the bottom is the air pump.

This picture shows the SPECTRE rig with the SPECTRE mask, double hose regulator, backpack and tanks. The speargun is a replica of the CO2 gun used by SPECTRE. It was built by Ed at thespyboys.com from an original trigger group. The price is very reasonable if you want to add one to your collection, not to mention, Ed can provide lots of other prop replicas that you will not find anywhere else.

For those interested in the Thundervall SCUBA equipment, this is the January 1966 issue of SKIN DIVER magazine, which while sometimes difficult to find, has a great article on Voit's representative and providing SCUBA equipment to EON for the filming of Thunderball. It's a diver perspective which you will not find elsewhere.
